FAQ

As an aftermarket auto parts website, we often come across customers' questions about repairs and choosing parts, and you may encounter the same doubts, so we'll share the display as a long-term to answer your questions.

Thanks for trusting TECHIE!

  • How to check a motorcycle coil?

1. Visual InspectionCheck for cracks, burns, or corrosion on the coil casing/Inspect spark plug wires & connectors for damage/Look for carbon tracking (black lines) indicating electrical leakage

2. Resistance TestMeasure between the +/- terminals (typically 0.22.0Ω)/Test between the high-tension terminal & spark plug wire (usually 5k15kΩ)

  • How long do motorcycle ignition coils last

1. Average Lifespan:

Most motorcycle ignition coils last 20,000 to 50,000 miles (32,00080,000 km)

2. Key Factors Affecting Longevity:

Short trips (frequent cold starts) wear coils faster

Off-road/Wet riding

Weak/failing battery or stator strains the coil

Corroded connectors cause resistance issues

  • How to test ignition coil?

1. Resistance Test: Measure primary and secondary resistance. Compare readings to vehicle specifications - outliers indicate coil problems.

2. Spark Test: Remove a spark plug, reconnect it to the coil, and ground the plug’s threads to the engine. Crank the engine—no visible spark confirms coil failure.

  • How do i know if ignition coil is bad?

1. Engine Misfires:Random stuttering/jerking (especially under acceleration)

2. Hard Starting:Engine cranks longer than normal before starting.May start fine cold but struggles when warm

3. Rough Idling:Unstable RPMs at stop lights.Whole car shakes when stationary

4. Power Loss:Reduced fuel efficiency

  • What is the reason for abnormal shaking of the car after replacing theignition coil?

The model is not matched corectly,The parameters cannot meet the engine requirements; The ignition coil is not replaced as a set, and the parameter output of some old coils does notmeet the ignition requirements

  • Why do you need to replace the ignition coil as a set?

In order to avoid repairs caused by "secondary failure",it is recommended to replace allcylinders even if the ignition coil of only one cylinder falils
